Summer Confidence Boost: Let’s Make This Break Meaningful (and Fun!)
Hi again,
It’s Dr. Reon Baird-Feldman here — checking in with a little summer encouragement just for you.
Summer break is a wonderful time to recharge, explore, and enjoy a slower rhythm with your child. But if you’re anything like me (or the parents I work with), you may also be wondering:
Here’s the good news: It doesn’t take a packed schedule or screen-free perfection. You can make this summer both fun and meaningful with just a few intentional shifts.
Here are some of my favorite psychologist-approved tips to keep things light, engaging, and confidence-building all summer…and if you’re still winding down the academic year, keep this note close. Summer is quickly approaching!:
1. Start the Day with an Affirmation Ritual
- Kids thrive on positive repetition. Choose one affirmation each morning — from a card deck, calendar, or even your water bottle — and repeat it together. Add a little dance, a power pose, or a mirror moment for extra fun!
2. Create Connection Moments — Not Just Schedules
- Instead of trying to fill every hour, create small pockets of intentional connection. A short walk, a snack chat, or journaling side-by-side can go a long way.
3. Keep Confidence Tools Visible
- Affirmation magnets on the fridge. A yoga mat in a corner for mindful movement. A colorful pouch with positivity cards tucked in a backpack. When our tools are visible, they’re more likely to be used — and loved. 4. Let Kids Be the Experts
- Ask them to teach you something this summer — how to play a game, how they see the world, how they’d design their own water bottle. This flips the script and reminds them that their voice matters. 5. Celebrate “Small Wins” Out Loud
- Summer is full of learning moments — even in the smallest things. Point out bravery, kindness, effort, and problem-solving as you see it. Name it. Celebrate it. That’s how we build confidence naturally. This season isn’t just a break — it’s a beautiful opportunity to slow down and show up in meaningful ways. At 2nd City Psych, we’re here to help you make the most of it.
You’re doing incredible work, and I’m cheering you on.
